Leading by example is a trait of Jesus' good life The task of Christian spokespersons, leaders, and professionals is to exemplify and teach the foundational traits of the good life Jesus manifests. But this must also include the more specific traits required in the public domain—industriousness, self-control, moderation, and responsibility for oneself and others. That is the responsibility and posture of love. The human drive to be self-supporting can be tied to a determination to be productive in order to bless others. Again, that is observable in human life. Paul remarks on his own practice: "We did not eat anyone's bread without paying for it; but with toil and labor we worked night and day, so that we might not burden any of you" (2 Thess. 3:8). And he calls upon his readers to follow his example. Again he says: "Thieves must give up stealing; rather let them labor and work honestly with their own hands, so as to have something to share with the needy" (Eph. 4:28).
