Day 527: Read today's devotional on Bible Gateway.

Beginning

Read Luke 3:23

Jesus was about thirty years old when he began his public ministry. Jesus was known as the son of Joseph. Joseph was the son of Heli.
(Luke 3:23)

Reflect

Imagine the Savior of the world working in a small-town carpenter's shop until he was 30 years old! But he patiently trusted his Father's timing for his life and ministry.

Thirty was the prescribed age for priests to begin their ministry (Numbers 4:3). Joseph was 30 years old when he began serving the king of Egypt (Genesis 41:46), and David was 30 years old when he began to reign over Judah (2 Samuel 5:4). Age 30, then, was a fitting time to begin an important task in the Jewish culture.

Today, fewer rites of passage outline the seasons of life. Careers are delayed by extended education. Marriage is often delayed by education, careers, or not having found the right person.

Respond

More important than getting the timing right is trusting God for each step. Having a heart that's used to trusting God will make you ready for whatever you're facing, both now and later.
