The clergy in society serve two interrelated and necessary functions in human existence. First, ministers maintain knowledge pertinent to transcendental realities, or "ultimate concerns." Among others, these ultimate concerns are related to God, human destiny, the meaning and purposes of life, love, suffering, evil, death, and eternity. Ministers are required to offer wisdom and perspective on these crucial existential issues. Second, ministers engage and supervise the management of the moral concerns of their community based on their knowledge of the divine attributes of God.
