Day 92: Read today's devotional on Bible Gateway.

Numbers 7:1-11, 84-89

Once the Tabernacle is complete, it becomes the meeting place where Moses listens to God.

Obeying and Listening and Obeying

Read

Whenever Moses went into the Tabernacle to speak with the Lord, he heard the voice speaking to him from between the two cherubim above the Ark's cover—the place of atonement—that rests on the Ark of the Covenant. The Lord spoke to him from there.
(Numbers 7:89)

Reflect

The Lord had kept his promise to Moses (Exodus 25:22). Imagine hearing the very voice of God! Moses must have trembled at the sound.

Like Moses, we have the privilege of talking to God, and God speaks to us. He speaks through his written Word and by his Holy Spirit (John 14:26; 16:13-15; 2 Peter 1:20-21). God spoke in a variety of ways to his people to tell them the proper way to live. The Bible recounts these conversations, and in them we hear something of God's character.

In the time you spend with God, spend as much time listening to him as you spend talking to him. Moses did talk to God, but he also listened. As you read God's Word, ask yourself what it tells you about God's character. As you pray, praise God for who he is, and listen for how you should become more like him (Ephesians 5:1).

Respond

We often wish God would speak to us more clearly. Sometimes, though, we have to obey what we have already heard from God. Doing so may put us in a place to better hear from God. Is there a place in your life where you need to listen by obeying first? If you feel stuck, maybe God is calling you to step out. If you feel scared by that, talk about it with someone. It may be the area of faith God wants to build in you!
