Day 149: Read today's devotional on Bible Gateway.

Two Roads

Read Deuteronomy 11:8-32

"Look, today I am giving you the choice between a blessing and a curse!"
(Deuteronomy 11:26)

Reflect

God gave the Israelites great freedom. He showed them the path to blessing and warned them against the way to the curse. It is amazing that most of them, through their disobedience, still chose the way to the curse.

This wasn't the first time God gave people such freedom. He gave Adam and Eve free rein in Eden, with a single command followed by a warning (Genesis 2:16-17). Unfortunately, their choices weren't any different.

God gives us the same freedom today, along with the same choices. We can choose to obey and follow God, living in harmony with God's commands for the way the world was meant to be. Or we can rebel against his commands and live in dissonance with God and his creation.

God has not hidden his laws from us and then punished us for unknowingly breaking them. He has made his ways clear to us so that we can follow him and experience the blessings of life with him.

Respond

Are you choosing the way to God's blessing, or are you choosing the way to the curse? God has given you great freedom, but he is calling you to choose the way to life. What area of your life do you need to trust and obey God for right now? What first step can you take? Put that before God and talk with him about it.
