The whole idea of defending the faith has become quite a problem. "Defending the faith" is actually a biblical phrase that occurs in Jude 1:3 ("to contend for the faith"). But I assure you, if you look at that passage, it's not talking about throwing people into a logical Bessemer converter and blowing hot air at them until they're cleaned up.
Defending the faith as spoken of in Jude is about how you live; it refers to moral purity as well as, no doubt, some elements of correct teaching and right doctrine. So let's understand that it's not an attempt to prove we are right.
