As for Luke, well, many of us aren't born into God's chosen people, the Jewish family. We're outsiders, gentiles. Luke's gospel (the record of Christ's life and teachings) is for us. It was written by a gentile to a gentile, Theophilus (which means "friend of God"). Luke is a story of, as Lisa says, Jesus' "gut-level compassion" for us… unlike any other love we will ever know. It's for the outsiders, the outliers, and the disenfranchised. Luke, again and again, shows that Jesus passionately cares for everyone, and He pours out His compassion in a life-changing, future-altering, to-the-core kind of way.
Who of us feels like we're not good enough, like we don't fit in, like we've blown it too badly, or our stories are too much of a mess? 🙋♀️ Luke shows us over and over that that's the kind of person Jesus pursues, embraces, and dearly loves.
Tax-collectors, Samaritans, lepers, women, poor people… Jesus reached out to them. He hung out with the least of these with His outrageous mercy and love.
No wonder we love this Savior Jesus! He is the One who is worth the cost of our faith. Every single one of us has a Jesus-shaped hole in ourselves. He is the answer to that empty place that we have tried to fill with all manner of fruitless solutions.
Luke: Gut-Level Compassion is the study for us. Come join us today. I hope to see you there!
Who is this study for?
Jesus' followers who want to know Him more intimately
Everyone who wants to understand the Bible more deeply
Anyone who feels unworthy or like they don't belong
P.S. Invite a friend to join you! One of my favorite things about the Beautiful Word Bible Studies is the focus on scripture memorization. This study is a great opportunity to build a new habit of scripture memory, and to keep a friend accountable and read through the entire Gospel together.
Let's do this together!
