Rapid personal covid test kits. It seems like everyday we are getting more and more rapid testing kits approved. So far the two main categories are:
Nasal (the first category)
1) Nasal pharyngal (this one requires the swab to go way up in the nasal cavity making it a bit uncomfortable)
2) Anterior Nasal (this one allows for the swab to take the sample half way up the nasal cavity making it much more comfortable.
Saliva (the second category)
These require the swap to swirl around in the mouth and the sample to be taken from there. ?
What our Canadian customers should know
The federal government has put together a program to offer the testing kits for free to companies of 10 employees and more. These kits can be ordered either by contacting participating pharmacies (of which we are one) in the program or if your company has more than 200 employees then the kits can be ordered with the government directly.
The process is long and tedious and requires the company that is receiving the kits to do some reporting. Do not fear we are in the process of working with the government to build a website that you can order through us and we will handle all the paperwork. We are targeting to have this website up and running by the end of October.

What our American customers should know:
Right now the FDA has approved rapid antigen or covid test kits which are POC (point of Care) or OTC (over the counter). Right now the ones available for us to sell are the Carestart and the Sienna POC rapid covid test kits pictured above.
POC test kits means that they have to be administered by a health professional or by a CLIA approved lab. This makes the process long and complicated for any company looking to test their employees. We have spent the last month to see if we can bypass the need to have a company test their employees with this requirement.
We have gotten a decision directly from the CLIA accreditation department authorizing employees to test themselves and report the result to their employer without a medical professional or a CLIA approved laboratory. We have passed this decision to our rapid covid test manufacturers legal department and we should get an answer within the next week to see if we will be able to sell these POC test kits directly to our customers. OTC test kits. We will be receiving these test kits soon, they will be more expensive than the POC kits only because the manufacturers can charge more for the convenience. Will keep you informed as soon as we get more news.
